The academic sections in the Department of Internal Medicine identified the need for funding in order to assist with costs to support the Academic Mission. Funding for this activity will be provided from the Department of Internal Medicine Practice Plan.
Governance of Funds
The funds will be held in an account managed by the Managing Director, Department of Internal Medicine and dispersed in accordance with established accounting principles and policies.
- 2 – 5 GFT/UMFA members; $2,000 per annum
- 6 – 15 GFT/UMFA members; $6,285 per annum
- > 16 GFT/UMFA members; $10,000 per annum
Use of Funds
Sections may use the annual funding for the following activities:
- Structured section meetings or retreats (set agenda required)
- Visiting Professors for CME activities - see Hospitality expenses and Visitor Travel for more information
- Section symposia with agenda
- Small equipment or tools for educational purposes (excluding computer equipment/peripherals see below)
- Administrative CPD
- Resident Wellness
These funds may not be used for staff, computer equipment/peripherals (without limiting the generality of the following, that list includes, but is not limited to: keyboards/mice and other input devices; cameras; speakers; microphones; telehealth equipment; projectors; dictation and/or recording devices; laser pointers; etc.), social events, or faculty travel, GFT travel or Resident travel. Expenses must be one-time costs with no continuing annual expense.
Expense tracking & Balance
- The section admin will track submitted expenses each year on a spreadsheet, calculating a current balance (date, amount, description, etc.)
- At the request of the section the balance can be reconciled and verified with the Department Administrator - Michelle Elands
Funds can not be carried over from one year to the next.
