Purpose

To ensure a transparent and consistent approach to recruitment.


Membership

For programs with less than 10 residents at the time of Search, the Committee shall consist of:

  • One member of the Section to be chosen by the Department Head or in the case of a section with less than 4 members, a member of another section
  • One student, normally a resident from the Department of Internal Medicine to be chosen by the Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine PGME Committee.


For Programs with more than 10 residents at the time of the Search, the Committee shall consist of:

  • The Associate Dean, PGME and the Chair, Department of Internal Medicine Post Graduate Medical Education Committee who will Co-Chair the Search Committee
  • The Department Head or designate will be an ex-officio member of the Committee
  • One member of the Section to be chosen by the Department Head or in the case of a section with less than 4 members, a member of another section
  • One student, normally a resident
  • One person appointed by each of the Co-Chairs in Consultation with the Department Head.


All vacancies will be posted in accordance with policies and procedures established by the University of Manitoba. Potential candidates may be approached to apply for a position. Candidates will be contacted for a formal interview. The candidate should be prepared to indicate priorities for the future and be prepared for questions from the Search Committee.

The decision of the Search Committee will be by consensus, when possible, and when not possible, by vote. The Chair of the Committee is allowed a vote.

The Chair of the Committee will report to the Department Head the same day following the Search Committee meeting.

The Department Head will subsequently advise and recommend appointment to the Associate Dean.


Term of Office

The normal term for a PGME Program Director will be for five years. This can be renewed for an additional five year term upon successful review.


Evaluation

All PGME Program Directors in the Department of Internal Medicine will undergo a review process in keeping with departmental policies and procedures.
