The Section of Geriatric Medicine runs the Geriatric Medicine Subspecialty Education Program. The section has 6 GFT and 5 non-GFT physicians and 0 PhD researchers.

The Section has an active role in the Department of Internal Medicine and the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA). The section maintains a very large clinical service within the WRHA: it provides primary coverage for 30 inpatient beds, inpatient consult services at six acute care hospitals, day hospital coverage for four geriatric day hospitals, and supports six geriatric program assessment teams (GPATs). The section members are active in teaching medical trainees at all levels and actively participate in teaching a broad array of health and public health trainee, and contribute to the general educational activities for the general public. Teaching evaluations have been consistently strong. The section maintains strong ties to other university centers, such as the Centre on Aging and the Manitoba Centre for Health Policy.
